The Darien Assessor's Office prides itself as an outreach administrative office for not only the taxpayers of Darien but also for area real estate professionals, agents, and appraisers in need of updating values, attorneys, and accountants working on estates or property transfers, concerns from insurance agents gaining property information and also for speculative buyers or sellers of residential and commercial properties. The integrity of all property characteristics for public scrutiny and assessment purposes is second to servicing public calls and over-the-counter needs in an efficient, professional manner.
The Assessor's primary objective is to ensure that all taxable property located within Darien is assessed in accordance with applicable law so that every property owner is given an appropriate share of the total tax burden. To accomplish the objective, the Assessor must discover, list, and value all property within Darien. In addition, the Assessor is responsible for reviewing and approving various forms of property tax relief. The result of these efforts is the annual reconciliation of the Grand List: a record of all Taxable and Tax-exempt property in Darien.
Real Estate Database
Computers are available to the public for Real Estate information between 8 am and 5:15 pm (Monday through Thursday), outside the office of the Assessor at the Town Hall. The database is also available online.
The Town Assessor's data can be exchanged via email at a cost of $70. Checks should be payable to "The Town of Darien".
Copies of the 2022 grand list field cards are available for $1. The 2023 field cards are only available online.
