Program & Activities

The Darien Parks and Recreation Department offers programs for pre-school age residents to senior citizens. In Darien, there are many private recreational service providers that each attempt to reach their own niche in Darien. The Parks and Recreation Department attempts to meet the needs and interests of the residents of town which are not met by the private groups in town.

Programs presently offered by the Parks and Recreation Department: (Please note that some of these programs are season-specific).

Important Information About Programs

The Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to set a minimum and maximum for each program to ensure instructor to participant ratios are maintained. The Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel any program due to insufficient enrollment.  Make-up classes are not provided for classes missed by participants.  Parks and Recreation does not prorate classes for late registrations.

Registration 

Resident registration for all 2023-24 fall & winter programs begins on Wednesday, August 23 at 10 AM online, in the Parks and Recreation office, or by mail. Non-resident registration begins on August 30th. Payments must be made in full at the time of registration. Mail-in registration does not guarantee program availability. In an effort to be fair and equitable, the Parks and Recreation Department will process one registration form per person. Individuals with more than one form may re-enter online or drop off the form(s) to be processed with mail-in registrations.

Inclement Weather 

If programs are postponed, every attempt is made to re-schedule. You will be contacted by the Parks and Recreation Department or by the course instructor to re-schedule the missed class.   Make-up classes are not provided for classes missed by participants.

Program/Class Refunds 

If a program is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, a full refund will be given. For any other reason, refunds will be granted up to one week from the start of the program less a $15 administration fee. If cancellations are made within one week of the program start date, only 75% of the registration fee will be refunded. No refunds will be granted after the start of a program.  Program registration changes, cancellations and refund request must be made in writing to parkrec@darienct.gov.
