Dryer Safety tips:

Ordinary Dryer
  • Always follow your manufacturers instructions. These include use and maintenance guidelines.
  • Empty or clean the lint filter after every use of the dryer.
  • At least annually check your dryer vent for signs of accumulated lint.  The filters do not catch all of the lint coming from the drum.   Because of the moisture in the vent tubing, lint easily attaches itself to the tubing. (This may need to be done more frequently depending on usage.)
  • When installing or running the exhaust pipe check manufacturers guidelines.  All have limitations on length of run and sizing requirements. This also includes the use of flexible tubing and type of materials.
  • Any signs of malfunctioning of the dryer should be attended to immediately.  The timer should never be allowed to be faulty.  Longer than needed cycles can have a detrimental outcome.
  • Never dry any articles that have been exposed, even slightly, to flammable liquids.   (cleaning solvents, gasoline, etc.)
  • There have been three major fires in Connecticut in recent months due to accumulated lint.  One being a fatal fire in September of 1997.
