Frequently Asked Questions
Parking Vouchers

How do I use parking vouchers?

The vouchers are very simple to use. Each voucher has a year, month and date section. You simply scratch out with a coin or fingernail the correct year, month and date and then display in your driver’s side window. The voucher is displayed by folding the top at the "Fold" line and rolling it up into the window frame. There is a calendar in each book of vouchers to help you scratch out the correct date. You must use a new parking voucher for each day you park.

Where do I get my parking vouchers?

There is a list provided below of the locations where parking vouchers will be for sale. In addition, signs in the parking lot that you use will name the vendors nearest to that location for your convenience. At all times there will be a number of different locations so that you have a choice of vendors to use.

Who can use a Darien parking voucher?

These parking vouchers are for use by anybody parking at a voucher parking space at the commuter parking lots at the Darien and Noroton Heights train stations. Voucher parking spaces will be clearly marked. The purchase of a parking voucher does not guarantee a parking space. Therefore, it would be prudent not to scratch out the voucher until you arrive at your parking space.

How much do they cost?

Each voucher costs $3.00, or $30.00 for a book of ten.

How many parking vouchers can I purchase?

You can purchase as many as you need. They come in books of ten. Regular commuters may want to purchase them by the book and then use them as they need them. The vouchers can also be purchased singly for those people who are not regular users of these parking facilities.

What happens if I scratch out the wrong date on the parking voucher?

A parking voucher can only be used for the date scratched out. Therefore, if the date that you scratched out is after the present date, then you can use the voucher on that date. However, if you scratch out a date prior to the present date, the voucher is null and void and you must use another voucher. It is therefore very important that you scratch out the correct date.

What happens if I need to park for more than one day?

The Town of Darien allows a car to stay up to a maximum of five days in these parking facilities. If you are staying multiple days, then you can validate and display the correct number of vouchers on the day you leave. For example, if you are going to be gone for three days, then you can display three different vouchers in your driver’s window for the days you will be gone. This has proven to be very convenient for long-term commuters.

What happens if I lose a parking voucher?

Parking vouchers should be treated the same as cash. Once they are purchased there is no way of replacing lost or incorrectly validated vouchers. There is also no refund for vouchers once they have been purchased.
