Absentee Ballots
Voter registration for absentee ballots takes place at the Town Clerk's
Office in room 101 at the Town Hall between 12 noon and 4:30 p.m. Call

Beach Passes
Contact the Department of Parks &
Recreation beginning in April at 656-7325. Proof of residency is required
for new applicants.
Birth Registration
The Town Clerk keeps these records. Call 656-7307 or go to room 101 at

Building Inspections
Contact Lisa Mason at the Building
Department to request a building inspection. Call 656-7347 or e-mail
Lisa at lmason@ci.darien.ct.us.
Include the following information in your request: owner's name and address,
type of inspection, your name and phone number and the permit number.
Building Permits
Building permits are needed to build a house, add a garage, deck or portico,
enclose a porch, remodel a bathroom or kitchen, finish a basement or attic,
put on a new roof, install a pool, erect a shed or large tent, demolish
a structure, install a gas or wood burning stove or fireplace, change
the size of windows or add a bay window and for interior alterations.
Building permits can be obtained at the Building Department. See the Building
Department for fees, applications and procedures or call 656-7347
for further information.

Certificates of Occupancy
Certificates of Occupancy and Certificates of Compliance for permits can
be found in the Building Department office in the Town Hall, room 212.
Cremation Certificates

Deeds and Survey Maps

Disinterment Permits

Dog Licenses
All dogs six months or older must be licensed and wear a collar and tag
at all times. A current rabies certificate from a veterinarian must be
presented. Dog licences expire June 30th and must be renewed prior to
that date each year. Call 656-7307 or go to room 101 at the Town Hall

The Planning and Zoning Department provides staff support for the Environmental
Protection Commission, Architectural
Review Board, and Zoning Board

Parking Vouchers
Parking vouchers are for use in voucher parking spaces at the commuter
parking lots at the Darien and Noroton Heights train stations. Vouchers are required from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Parking is free on weekends and on holidays, and vouchers are not required at these times. Parking
vouchers are sold separately for $3.00 each or in books of 10 for $30.00.
Vouchers can be purchased from various stores and other locations near
each station (list of merchants).

The hours are 8:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday. The Planning and Zoning

Rabies Clinics
The Animal Control Officer and the Health
Department schedule rabies clinics at the Town Hall several times
a year. Call 655-8686 or 656-7320 for more information.
Refuse Disposal Area and Recycling Center
The Refuse Disposal Area and Recycling Center (aka Dump) is located at
Ledge Road, between the Post Road (US 1) and Noroton Avenue. See Refuse
Disposal Area and Recycling Center for information on annual permits,
hours of operation and guidelines for acceptable and unacceptable waste.

Representative Town Meeting (RTM)
The RTM is composed of 100 members representing the Town's five districts.
The number of representatives from each district is determined annually
by a flexible formula based on elector apportionment. Each member represents
approximately 100 registered voters.

The Representative Town Meeting Schedule, Minutes and Agendas are available
at the Town Clerk's office in room 101 at the Town Hall. The Schedule
and Agendas can also be accessed online (Meeting
Agendas & Minutes).

School Registration
Parents must provide a birth certificate, child's Social Security number,
proof of residence, a report card from the previous school for students
who have attended school elsewhere, and a record of immunization inoculations
for measles, mumps, rubella, DPT and polio, and a skin test for tuberculosis.

Surveys and plot plans can be found in the Building Department in the
Town Hall, room 212.

Recyclable materials and trash are picked up separately by private collection
services. Residents can obtain a dumping permit and bring their recyclables
and trash to the town's transfer station for a fee. See Refuse
