Marriage Licenses are issued by the Town Clerk’s Office in the town in which the couple is being married.
Both parties must appear on their own behalf in the Town Clerk’s Office to apply for the license, with current Government-issue photo ID in hand. Each will be asked questions regarding parents, including birthplace of both parents and maiden name of mothers. You will also be asked for your Social Security number.
The process takes about 20 minutes depending on activity in the office--no appointment is necessary. The hours to apply for a marriage license are Monday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. Once issued, the marriage license is good for 65 days. There is no waiting period between applying for and receiving your license.
The fee for the license is $50.00, and a certified copy of the completed license may be pre-ordered for an additional $20. Payment may be made with cash or check only, Neither credit nor debit cards are accepted.
