Application for Absentee Ballot - COVID-19

For the November 3, 2020 Election, an elector can vote either in person at the polls from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, or by absentee ballot.

The Secretary of the State (SOTS) will be sending applications for absentee ballots to all registered voters the first two weeks in September.  Completed applications* should be delivered to our office as soon as possible, either by dropping off in the drop box in the front of Town Hall or by mailing to Town Clerk, 2 Renshaw Road, Darien, CT  06820.  Ballots will be mailed out by the Town Clerk’s office commencing Friday, October 2, 2020.  Please note - you do not have to vote by absentee ballot.  The polls will be open on Election Day for in person voting and the Registrars of Voters will provide socially-distanced and sanitized polling locations in town.

*If you have already filed an Application for Absentee Ballot with our office, you do not need to complete the application sent to you by SOTS.  To confirm we received your application, please email us at townclerk@darienct.gov.

If a registered voter is unable to vote in person on Election Day, he may apply to the Town Clerk for an absentee ballot for any of the following reasons:  

  • COVID -19 (All voters are able to use this reason, pursuant to Public Act 20-3 July Spec. Sess.)
  • Absence from the Town during all of the hours of voting
  • Illness
  • Physical disability
  • Active service in the armed forces
  • Duties as an election official at a polling place
  • Religious tenets  

Before a ballot can be issued to the voter, an application must be completed and returned to this office. The application can be obtained in person, by mail or by clicking the link at the of the page (the application is legal size and can be printed on legal-size paper or adjust printer settings to print on letter-size paper).  The application must be signed by the voter and mailed or hand delivered to the clerk’s office.
