APRIL 2021 PROGRAM UPDATE

 Dear Darien Senior Members,

"Hardships often prepare ordinary people for extraordinary destiny..." C.S. Lewis.  April is here! With the warmer weather and longer days upon us, Stacey and I are preparing to do more outdoor activities and classes as we determine how to get safely back to being together inside the Mather Center!  We have all had our lives turned upside down in the past year but we have also learned so much about the preciousness of the simple and ordinary...We will not ever take for granted being together, moving about our day as we please, taking time to chat with a neighbor, and celebrating milestones with family and friends!  Moreover, here at the Mather Center, attending exercise classes, academic health lectures, painting, working in the woodshop, listening to great music all the way to coffee and conversation in the cafe.

We also experienced the kindness and generosity of a community that came together from day one to support the needs and concerns of its senior residents!  As a Senior Center Director, I am so grateful for the other Towns and Cities that shared their virtual know how as well as program ideas so we could all stay connected! Now we enter a new phase and a Senior Center that will eventually be offering in-person programming along with virtual programming, when appropriate.  In a way, our bag of tricks has expanded from this journey with many innovations that grew from the heart of compassion!  Looking forward to our shared destiny!

Until then - Go Easy!

Beth
