Town News & Information
For Immediate Release
Darien, CT- Due to the current limitations of Metro-North train service, the Town of Darien in conjunction with the Darien Police Department will be temporarily suspending parking enforcement and parking fees in commuter parking lots. On-Street parking regulations will also be relaxed to the degree that public safety is not compromised. Laws pertaining to Fire Lanes, Handicapped Parking, and the blocking of roadways and driveways will be enforced. Commuters are cautioned against parking in private parking areas. These provisions will remain in place until more information can be obtained regarding the resumption of regular train service.
Currently train service remains suspended between South Norwalk and New Haven due to the train derailment and collision that occurred on May 17th. Commuters are advised to consult Metro North schedules for up-to-date train information.
Commuters are encouraged to arrive at train stations earlier than usual to allow time to find sufficient parking. Larger volumes of pedestrian and vehicular traffic are expected in and around both Darien and Noroton Heights train stations. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling to or through these areas. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

More helpful information on Post-Sandy issues:
-- Letter from the Building Department and Planning and Zoning Department
The Town of Darien had many houses receive substantial damage as a result of Storm Sandy in late October 2012. In response to that natural disaster, the Town has established a policy that all storm rebuilding between now and December 31, 2013 will be eligible for some reduced application and permitting fees.
The idea remains trying to help people impacted by storm Sandy and encourage property owners to meet the new FEMA elevations which go into effect in July 2013. The Town has waived portions of the Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and Environmental Protection Commission application fees, as well as Zoning Permit fees down to $60 (which the State requires to be collected pursuant to CGS 22a-27j). The Town has also decided to waive a portion of the Building Permit fees (the first $50,000 in value) for those property owners completing Sandy-related work, including house rebuilding and house elevations.
The fee waivers will only be in effect until December 31, 2013, which should be enough time for property owners to get their applications submitted, reviewed, and approved.
The
Planning and Zoning Department page will be updated every week with a list of the Zoning Permits pending within the Department. Click
here to get to the list.
